WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team completed competition at the Big Ten Championships on Saturday (Feb. 28) in West Lafayette, Ind., with another strong performance from kevin Puskaric and Joe Schmitt. Puskaric placed fourth in the 200 breaststroke with at time of 1:57.63 a day after placing sixth in the 100 breaststroke.

"From where we were two years to where we are today is just a difference of night and day," said Gianiodis. "This conference is just so good. We had a really good season and hopefully, we can build on it later this spring, summer and into next fall."

MSU's 400 freestyle relay team turned in a 2:58.82 but Joe Schmitt swam a varsity record 44.48 in the first leg of the event. The school record of 44.51 was set in 1992 by Greg Mihalik.

Other Spartans competing in the finals on Saturday included Colby Ward (15:28.25) and Ricky Forrest (15:29.08) in the 1,650 freestyle and Jon LaRocque (1:48.77) in the 200 backstroke.

"These seniors have been great and some of the best student-athletes I've ever been around," Gianiodis said.

MSU finished the weekend in 10th place.
