Sho's Christmas

クリスマス休暇で勝は友達のMatt Massmanのところに滞在させていただきました。Matt Massmanのお父さんからクリスマスの写真を送っていただきましたのでアップします。
クリスマス休暇中、勝は風邪をひいていたようで、古巣のPioneer HSでの練習が殆どできなかったようです。風邪はだいぶよくなってきたとのことですので、休暇中の遅れを挽回して欲しいと思います。

アメリカのクリスマスでは、ツリーの下にプレゼントを飾っておき、クリスマスの日に渡します。
Matt Massmanくらい身長があるといいのですが。

テーブルの上にはチョコポッキー、ハイチュウ、ラムネなどが置いてあります。Massmanの家の人が買ってくれたんだと思います。自分の子供のようにしていただきすごく嬉しいです。

MSU vs Ball State

今週は、オハイオ州にあるBall State Universityとの対抗戦でした。2007年最後の対抗戦になります。
Ball Stateは以前Ann Arbor Swim Clubに所属していたときに、大会で行ったことがあります。Ann Arborから南に1時間半ほどのところにある学校です。

今回勝は、200メドレーリレーのバタフライ、200個人メドレー、500自由形に出場したようです。

Swimmers, Divers Claim Victory at Ball State

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming & diving teams swept Ball State Saturday, with the men's team winning, 149-94, and the Spartan women taking a 136-107 decision. The men won 10 of 13 events, while the women claimed nine. Sho Koba, Adam Schmitt  and Marlys Fuqua each won two swimming events and Danielle Williams and Ivan Zalessov won both diving events for the Spartans.

MSU enjoyed one of their top performances of the season. Senior Adam Schmitt won the 1,000 free by over 22 seconds, clocking a time of 9:34.64. Freshman kevin Puskaric (1:44.89) and sophomore Joe Schmitt (1:45.13) took the top two spots in the 200 free, respectively. Koba and fellow sophomore Gabe Strickler did the same in the 200 IM, while Ivan Zalessov won both diving events.

"We had a number of good swims, and Ivan had an incredible meet," head coach Matt Gianiodis said.

The men continued their dominance in the second half of the meet, as freshman Ricky Forrest and sophomore Matt Massman won the 200 fly (1:55.28) and 100 free (47.90), respectively. Adam Schmitt  placed first in the 200 back (1:55.46) while sophomore Marcus Poteete touched the wall first in the 200 breast (2:10.33) and Koba captured a 500 free win (4:44.33).

Fuqua led the women's team by winning the 1,000 free (10:27.68) and 500 free (5:06.90) while Williams placed first in one- and three-meter diving. Junior Heather Kiluk won the 200 IM (2:07.86) and sophomore Julie Kahn won the 100 free with a time of 54 seconds flat. Freshman Stephanie Fisher won the 200 back (2:06.07) while sophomore Sarah Biasello won the final women's individual event of the day, clocking a 2:23.47 in the 200 breast. The MSU women also won the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

"The women's score got a little close at the end, but we gave a great effort," Gianiodis said. "Julie Kahn had a great swim in the 100 free and Marlys Fuqua was very solid."

The Spartans are done with competition for the 2007 calendar year and will return to the pool on Jan. 11 at Valparaiso.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming & diving teams each finished the three-day Ohio State Invitational fifth in the team standings. The event, which concluded Sunday afternoon, featured 13 men's teams and 15 women's teams. Minnesota finished first in both the men's and women's competitions.

The women's team was led by sophomore Sasha Lewerenz, junior Julie Kahn and freshman Stephanie Fisher. Lewerenz clocked a 2:04.94 in the 200 back, good for a 13th-place finish, while Julie Kahn placed ninth in the 100 free (52.49). Fisher gave two strong performances, swimming to fourth place in the 200 back (2:02.95) and swimming the lead leg of the 400 free relay (3:30.24).

Freshmen Kevin Puskaric and L. Colby Ward, senior Adam Schmitt and sophomore Marcus Poteete were the top performers for the Spartan men. Puskaric placed fourth in the 200 breast (2:01.24) while Schmitt finished ninth in the 100 free with a time of 45.48. Poteete's 1:52.14 in the 200 fly was good for 12th place. Sophomore Ivan Zalessov was the only MSU diver in action on Sunday, placing 13th off the platform boards (237.60).

"I'm disappointed in our men's 400 free relay. We could've done better," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "But overall, we did really well and had a lot more good performances than bad. Hopefully we can use this as momentum going into the next semester."

The Spartans will compete once more before the calendar year ends, traveling to Ball State Saturday, Dec. 8. The meet will start at 2 p.m.

Ohio State Invitational Day2

今回の大会は三日間で開催されているのですが、MSUの出場はどうも二日間だけだったようです。MSUのwebのスケジュール記事を見て気がつきました。

勝の結果は二日目もイマイチでした。今回少しは調整しての大会だったので期待していたのですが。
シーズン後半に向けてどうしていけば良いか、考えていって欲しいと思います。

ちょっと最初の50を早く入りすぎたのかもしれませんが、これくらいで入って最後までしっかり泳がないと。トライは良いのですが、まだまだ地力が足りないのでしょうか?

決勝は初めの50, 100はそこそこですが、後半のタイムが落ちてしまっています。疲れが出てしまったのか?

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Michigan State men's and women's swimming & diving teams each finished fifth at the two-day Ohio State Invitational. Minnesota finished first in both the men's and the women's standings.

The women's team was led by junior Heather Kiluk and sophomore Laura DeFord in the 400 IM. Kiluk placed sixth (4:29.59) and DeFord clocked a 4:33.99 to finish seventh. Freshman Courtney Roberts placed eighth in the 100 breast (1:05.37).

Senior Adam Schmitt had another strong performance, placing seventh in the 200 free with a time of 1:39.42. Schmitt also swam the second leg of the 800 free relay, teaming with senior Jason Vadney and sophomores Sho Koba and Gabe Strickler to finish fourth in the event (6:42.21).

The Michigan State men's and women's swim teams return to action Saturday, Dec. 8 at Ball State.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Both Spartan swimming & diving teams stand in fifth place after one day of competition at the Ohio State Invitational. Junior diver Danielle Williams and fellow junior Marlys Fuqua led the women's team, while the men's team was driven by strong relay performances. Thirteen men's teams (including six Big Ten schools) and 12 women's teams (six Big Ten) are competing in the event.

Williams registered a final score of 290.73 in three-meter diving to place sixth among a very competitive field. Fuqua placed eighth in the 500 free (5:04.28).

The Spartan men were led by the 200 free and 400 medley relay teams. Adam and Joe Schmitt, Matt Massman and Mark Healey combined to place fourth in the 400 medley relay (1:23.23), while Jon LaRocque, Kevin Puskaric, Marcus Poteete and Adam Schmitt collectively placed sixth in the 200 free relay (3:20.33).

"We're a little off to where I wanted to be, but we're swimming really well," Gianiodis said. "This is a very strong field, and we swam pretty solid."

Day two of the invitational continues Saturday.
